Morbid Obesity : Candidate Criteria

These criteria are the standard by which most bariatric surgeons assess appropriateness for weight loss surgery:

  • BMI over 40 or 35 ã¹ with at least 2 significant co-morbidities
  • Failed diets and other non-surgical attempts at weight loss
  • No contraindications to surgery (terminal cancer etc)
  • Ability to comprehend and provide informed consent
  • Willing to commit to long term follow-up
